Electrology Programs for Mississippi
For prospective electrology students that live in the "Magnolia State," Mississippi is what we refer to as an unlicensed state, which means it does not regulate the practice of electrology through licensing. If you want to become an electrologist in Mississippi, you do not need a state license to do so and you can easily become a trained electrologist by taking any one of the three electrology programs offered here at AIE. Electrology is an extremely rewarding career and the opportunities to become a successful electrologist in Mississippi are wide open. Mississippi does not currently have any independent state electrology organizations to join, so we highly recommend becoming a member of the American Electrology Association (AEA) after graduation from your training here with us.
One of your first and best options in becoming an electrologist in Mississippi is to complete our 600-hour licensing program and sit for our California state electrology licensing exam. As a graduate, this option offers you the credibility that automatically comes with the professional designation, "Licensed Electrologist." It is very professional and will give you a distinct advantage, to be able to show that you are a licensed electrologist, even in a state where licensing is not legally required. A California license also allows you to practice in many other licensed states. Call us for details if you think that a move may be in your future.
Your second training option would be our 600-hour training program that does not lead to licensure. This program is a little shorter and is also less expensive. There is no licensing exam preparation, so the practical training is shorter by two weeks, but in every other respect this training is identical to our licensing program.
Your third option is enrolling in our 350-hour training program. This program is based on our 600-hour licensing curriculum. The theory taught is identical, but in-school training is reduced to only 4 weeks. (In-school training for all of our programs can be taken in one session or in one week increments.) This 350-hour program meets the AEA's minimum standards for electrology instruction and allows graduates to take the Certified Professional Electrologist (CPE) exam that is offered by the AEA each year. Passing the CPE exam allows graduates to use the letters CPE after their name. This CPE title is seen as an extremely valuable asset by many electrologists that operate in unlicensed jurisdictions such as Mississippi.
