Electrology Licensing Program for Iowa

For those living in the "Hawkeye State" of Iowa, it is what we refer to as a licensed state, which means it regulates the practice of electrology through licensing. The state of Iowa requires that electrology students complete at least 425 hours of training before being allowed to sit for the state electrology licensing exam. This means to become a licensed electrologist in the state of Iowa, you can take AIE's 425 hour licensing program that was customized for your state's requirements. After graduation from our program, you will have ample preparation for the Iowa state licensing exam and a secure foundation for your new career.

This electrology program for Iowa is delivered in two modules for maximum flexibility. To minimize traveling and time away from home, the theory module can be completed online. Your hands-on, practical training is done in-school and can be completed in as little as 5 weeks. To accommodate your learning requirements, the theory and practical training modules may be taken separately or together. For hands-on training you can attend all 5 weeks in one session or break it down into one week increments.

All of AIE's programs are offered on an open-enrollment basis. This means that you may start studying on any day you wish and you can complete your training on a flexible schedule. GENERAL THEORY

A) INTRODUCTION TO ELECTROLOGY

• This includes 1) the history of electrology, 2) current methods of permanent and temporary hair removal.

B) BASIC SCIENCE

• A specific study of the following as these areas pertains to electrology;
1. Anatomy and physiology
2. Cytology
3. Histology
4. Survey of body systems: nervous, endocrine, lymphatic, cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, excretory, reproductive, skeletal, muscular, and integumentary
5. Dermatology: normal integument, diseases of the skin
6. Hair: structure and function, growth cycles, regrowth
7. Hypertrichosis, hirsutism: causes, evaluation, treatment
8. Contraindications to electrology
9. Microbiology: a study of microorganisms, personal hygiene, hand washing, sanitation, antisepsis, disinfection, sterilization, aseptic techniques
10. Immunology
11. Basic electricity
12. Modalities of electrology: electrolysis, single needle method and multiple needle method, thermolysis, manual and automatic method, and the blend method
13. Electrology techniques and variables, a) techniques, b) variables, probes, intensity, timing, depth of insertion
• Operation, care, maintenance of equipment and instruments.

1. Psychology as related to unwanted hair

Tuition Information

Tuition Includes: All training, the program text book, all study guides and all tests taken in the school, all disposable supplies and a supply kit that allows you to work in the school clinic. Plus, we are now including a lab coat as well as full membership into the American Electrology Association.

Students graduate with a certificate of completion and a proof of training certificate that allows them to sit for the State Board licensing exam.
